Can I just go back to your question about what it changed about New Zealand?
Initially, I think it had quite a dramatic effect, the division that everybody had a position, either you were on one side or the other.
And as Bryce said, yeah, it did actually sort of indicate that it
New Zealand was moving in some sort of liberal, progressive direction away from this very rugby-orientated society.
But then I think that's sort of forgotten.
I was teaching social studies during my teacher training, and I taught a class on the Springbok tour in 1981, and I was teaching this class and showing them the film Patu, and these kids didn't believe that it had happened.
They thought this movie was...
They just simply did not believe that this had happened in the New Zealand that they knew.
They were born the year that it happened.
It's basically forgotten.
You talk to anybody who wasn't of an age to remember it at the time, and they've no clue that it happened.
unless they have some interest in history so i don't think it had a long lasting effect on new zealand but for five or ten years it did people still held whichever view they had held at the time and and held that very close but yeah i think today you would find it wouldn't happen the rugby union wouldn't and if south africa was still a party they would follow much more the uh
the liberal way that New Zealand has gone and Springboks would not be invited to tour today in a similar situation.
Oh, I think the All Blacks are going to lose 4-0.
South Africa are going to dominate world rugby for the next 10 to 20 years now that they've become very popular and have managed to get the black and coloured populations playing rugby.
They've now got the flair in their back line that they never used to have.
South African rugby used to be all about big, brutal forwards and the All Blacks could run around them.
These days, that's not the case anymore.
These players like Feinberg, Nombazulu and Lubbock and Willems, I think the All Blacks are really going to struggle.
