And interestingly this has significantly helped with their fatigue and with no

Adverse effects because they were also concerned that they might be suffering from what we're calling long COVID.
podcast-host
So I think you know, really addressing that first might be a really helpful step.

Another option, just to throw into the mix here, is something called augmented NAC.
podcast-host
So ordinary NAC, which stands for N-acetylcysteine NAC,
podcast-host
This is a well-established medicine and supplement, and it helps the body make glutathione, and that's one of our main antioxidants.
podcast-host
And the theory is that it can help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which have been implicated in those who have long COVID.
podcast-host
So there is some early evidence for ordinary NAC being helpful, because that's something that could be tried, and it's been trialled and used for a long, long time quite safely.
podcast-host
Um, so there was a small retrospective study that that followed people with long COVID who took NAC and they did report improvements in fatigue and brain fog.
podcast-host
Um, alongside a blood clotting marker called Von Willebrand factor.
podcast-host
There you go, just throw that out there.
podcast-host
Uh, but again, it was a small study, it wasn't randomized, it wasn't placebo-controlled, so we can't yet say for certain the NAC was responsible for that.
podcast-host
We'd need larger prospective trials.
podcast-host
Is anybody going to do it in a supplement that can't be patented?
podcast-host
I don't know, I doubt it.
podcast-host
Um, but interestingly.
podcast-host
Interestingly, there's another group of researchers, including some very clever Italian professors, who have worked with molecular biologists and quantum physicists to create this thing called augmented NAC.
podcast-host
So you may have seen claims about it that it can clear persistent spike protein.
podcast-host
and support mitochondria and replenish glutathione.
podcast-host
And the mechanisms here are really interesting.
