But I know that there are lots of smart and creative lawyers out there who are committed to fighting corruption and fraud in our government who are thinking about suits that could potentially be brought.
And the other possibility that you mentioned is criminal liability.
It is a crime to steal taxpayer money.
It is also a crime to knowingly receive funds that are stolen from the U.S.
government.
So there are potential criminal consequences for everyone involved here, including people who accept
this money.
Clearly, they will not be prosecuted under this administration, but most federal crimes have a five-year statute of limitations, and that leaves open the possibility that there could be prosecutions in the future under a different Justice Department.
I truly believe, and I don't say this lightly, I don't tend toward hyperbole, that this is criminal collusion between the President and his Justice Department to give away money that belongs to the taxpayers.
Trump probably will pardon Blanche and others on his way out the door, which will make it very difficult to prosecute them for federal crimes, and it will make it difficult to get justice.
There's always the possibility of civil lawsuits to try to recover the money that has been given away, lost, stolen from the American taxpayers.
And it's not just in this context.
Donald Trump's pardons have already had the effect.
