So this is a paper from Japan, which is, of course, a very earthquake prone country.
But here they were studying artificial earthquakes, the earthquakes that are created when thousands of fans jump up and down at the same time.
You absolutely can.

And, you know, you can sync it with the audio.
So, you know, the timing as well of your quite kind of quite predictable waves that that creates.
So what they did here, this was a J League football match in Tokyo.
They put seismometers, little seismic centres around the stadium, around the area, kind of a few hundred metres away.
And then they recorded what happened when these artificial earthquakes, these fans having a great time, and they used it to test how good their models are.
So they have models that they use to predict how earthquake waves can propagate, like how fast they go, how quickly they die off.
And of course, they use those to figure out what the impact of the earthquake is going to be.
So here, the team were able to figure out which was the better of two different models that they had by matching the predictions from those models with the actual results that they got from this kind of quite predictable, controlled, football-induced seismic wave.

But here it was particularly the chance.
So when you had everybody doing something rhythmic, they were all jumping at the same time and they were singing.
That was something that you could really hang on to and know that that was creating a very specific wave.
This is what I was wondering myself.
So actually, during the World Cup at the Seattle Seahawks Stadium, which has hosted six games, they also have seismic sensors installed.
