You actually start in this kind of parts-based internal family systems approach by saying there's no bad parts. And so you start to appreciate you're trying, your intention of even the mean part in you, the rageful part, is trying to help you intentionally. Now it can act out and do negative things, you may have noticed, but we can talk about that later.

It's a thought, feeling, sensation that thinks it's an identity, thinks it's you. So that's what a part is. It's just a different approach. And it sneaks up and looks out of your eyes and says, I, I am anxious.
There's a positive intention, especially when you start with it internally, when it starts to talk internally. And that part isn't just a thought or even a story or a belief. It's a thought, feeling, sensation that thinks it's an identity, thinks it's you. So that's what a part is. It's just a different approach. I can't believe that this person and then that makes me feel this way. And so it keeps saying I, but you realize as soon as you can locate it, and thank it and appreciate it's trying to help because it's protective. It's a protective part. It's a managing part. It's trying to survive. It's a survival strategy.
