But because because of I don't understand this fully now, but because of curvature and because of compasses, to draw a straight line on a flat map, you have to change it.
And it's actually a really, really novel solution to it that came in the sixteenth century.
But it became the map that everybody used and the byproduct of that is that Europe in particular looks much bigger than it actually is and Africa in particular looks significantly smaller than it is.
And so therefore people would say that that kind of subtly
undermines Africa's place in the world and subtly enhances um Europe's place in the world and is seen as a kind of a colonial map rather than a a a true reflective map.
But again, it's not actually the map's fault.
The map it was designed in the right way.
It just became used for this and there's now a vote um in the UN to see if we can move on from using this map um and use a a more representative map instead.
Yeah, and it does change your perception.
So early again.
Europe
It does.
Europe is tiny.
Yeah, yeah.
As a landmass compared compared to all the other continents Europe is is is incredibly small.
And you can see how that would have, over a period of time, had that kind of subtle but compounding effect on people's perceptions.
I mean I always look at the map and you always think, geez, Ireland looks very small.
Ireland is actually three and a half times smaller again comparatively than it looks on the map that we would all know from a globe or from the map that was on our our primary school walls.
Um so
The vote is there, I I imagine, you know, I I I don't imagine the current US administration is going to accept the change.
