Now, this is one called portfolio heat.
Now, what it is, is that when you first go into the market, you are dicing with fragile money.
I think of that as the most risky time in any trade, that first entry into the market, because if you lose on that, you are actually losing money that you had to earn elsewhere.
So it can hurt.
So that adherence to an initial stop, I think, is a key.
Now, what happens if you have got a whole heap of opportunities in front of you because you're so confident and the market is going crazy?
How many of those opportunities should you enter?
And there is actually a mathematically definitive rule.
You should never risk more than 5% that are going towards your initial stop.
So once perhaps you're risking 1%, say, per trade, once one of those trades has gone up past break even, that allows space in your portfolio to open another position.
So if you're entering into the market and you only have 1% risk and you're after how many new positions, the answer is five until they've moved beyond your breakeven point.
So portfolio heat, I think, is a winner.
It saves you from that cluster of losses.
It helps you get your trades underway so that you're in a better position to follow the trend.
And it protects that initial fragile first capital going into the markets.
Now, Diana, what's your favorite risk management rule?
Tell me your story.
I want to hear how the market hurts you, Diana.
Yeah, concentration risk is genuinely an issue.
And the thing that I like about this as well is that you had somebody else to down-regulate your nervous system, to say this is how good trading actually occurs.
