So a group of activists, survivors, campaigners, all different groups begin to form at this time, and it really creates an incredible momentum
to get, first of all, a commission of investigation set up.
And that was really started by Justice for Magdalene, who really pushed through the UN to get an investigation.
So they brought that outside international attention on it.
The commission, which became the McAleese report, was set up.
The McAleese report was published, a thousand plus pages, and then nothing happens.
Enda Kenny goes into the Dáil and says, we're going to have two weeks and we're going to regroup to discuss this big report.
Two weeks, so there's no sign an apology is coming.
So people were very disgruntled, really upset, Finn quite betrayed, and also just left in this limbo.
Two weeks follows, they're in the Dáil, Enda Kenny is now giving the official apology.

I mean, we're really living in an era of like quite this, you know, there's always states apologies just generally.
But this feels like so singular and such a standout moment.
His voice breaks.
He becomes emotional.
He looks to the survivors and yeah, he becomes emotional.
He doesn't quite cry, but like he has clearly, he's lost all that composure of the statesman.
He sits down, everyone claps.
