No, no, you know, because there are many different orders of nuns with different ethos, different institutions they worked in.

So if you went to a nice middle, upper class convent school, you might have had a better experience, I would say, than a poor girl who has essentially been sent to a Magdalene laundry who no one is coming for.

We're not talking about the same experience.

It's a shame they didn't speak to me.

My whole approach to sort of studying history and punishment and injustice is always to be appreciative, to try and hear it someone's way, to be willing to listen.

I'm not there to judge necessarily.

My desire is understanding and explanation.

I'm interested in narrative.

but I just couldn't get them to speak to me.

And I even saw, you know, Jacinta Prunty, who had written the official history of the Good Shepherds and Sisters and had obviously included elements of the Magdalene Laundry in her book.

I saw her walk into Hodges Fidges one day and I thought, oh my God, I'm not this type of person, but...

I'm going to have to doorstep her.

And I sort of followed her in and we spoke in Hodges Fidges for a while and she was very nice, very helpful.

But again, I just haven't been able to get anyone to speak to me.

There are still survivors that are alive who still feel like an apology from the religious orders would be...

would alleviate some of their suffering.

And they haven't also, I have to say, they also haven't paid into any of the redress schemes.

So it's not just that they haven't said sorry.

They also feel they really, in their actions, have stood by the belief that this was a service.

And you cannot imagine the women who came to them outside of their service.
