Buying your first home or even thinking about getting to the market is such an overwhelming decision.

So the fact that it financially is getting further away makes everything more complex.

So if you look at the past 20 years, house growth has outpaced wage growth by two times.

So the longer you wait, the further behind you get.

But it's not only a financial equation.

If your home costs 10 to 12 times your income when you're

10 years ago, it costs five to six times your income.

The trade-offs that you have to make are so much greater.

It's not only that you're spending more money, but you have to factor in so many other considerations as well.

So the world a lot of us grew up in looked something like this.

You know, you grow up, you study hard, you get a good job, you work hard, you buy a home and you live happily ever after.

You might go on an annual camping trip to the beach or something like that.

It was much simpler.

And there was the idea that if you worked hard and saved hard, you would be rewarded by being able to have a stable roof over your head.

Now, tragically, that's actually no longer the case for a lot of people in Australia, that you can work hard, you can save harder, you can save longer, and you're still trying to chase a property market that's running further away.

And part of the problem there is the type of house that we're looking for, the type of ladder that we're on, and I guess our imagination of what this great Australian dream looks like.

There's the idea that there's a property ladder that you have to get on it any way you can.

This is the idea that we aspire, at least, you know, there's many stories, but for the majority of cultural narrative, let's simplify and say the majority of people aspire to a standalone house.

Now, I grew up living in many different countries and Australia is really an outlier in that aspiration.

Most of the world live in apartments and high density cities.
