What did you learn about how to be a man from the people around you growing up?

I grew up around very hard men, very hardworking men, farmers, truck drivers, mechanics.

It was all very blue collar where I grew up.

And my stepfather too.

And I loved Donny to bits, but he grew up in the time of men work hard, they provide, and that's what you do.

And you don't cry, you don't show emotion.

These are your responsibilities and you take care of those and that's it and that is your role.

And you can't really stray from outside of that.

And growing up, I remember...

both my mum and Donnie, like, because we lived on the farm, they were pretty hard on us growing up.

And, you know, I don't say, like, you know, they weren't whipping us with chains or anything, like, you know, we weren't slaves or anything, but we had farm work to do, you know, so it wasn't, we'd get home and I remember times, like, Donnie would come in, I'd be playing the Xbox and Donnie would just come in and, like, turn the Xbox off and just, like, we'd, you know, get outside, we'd go to mow the lawn, we got work to do, we got this stuff to do.

There was work to be done and you went and did it.

So here you are, a sporty kid, but also a sensitive book-loving kid in a pretty hyper-masculine world.

What kind of books are you reading at this stage?

Which series kind of stole your heart?

I remember the very first series that I – and I've still got these books.

They're still sitting on my shelf now.

And they were the Children of the Lamp series by P.B.

Kerr.

So it was a young born girl who were twins, twin brother and sister were twins, which obviously resonated with me because I had a twin sister.
