So I was always very, very fearful of the ridicule that would come from men and boys around me.
If they knew that I was reading, if they saw me reading, you know, that's, it was such a, it was a piece of armor that I had to put on to protect me from that, from that shame.
And that was to hide my, my love of books.
It was not overnight.
I didn't wake up one morning and just say, I'm done.
You know, there was no light bulb moment that came through years and years of...
Really difficult internal work, really a lot of self-discovery, a lot of returning to myself.
And that came through my journey through addiction, my journey through rehab and my journey into recovery.
And that was so integral in the...
confidence that I now have to really share my love of books and reading so yeah it wasn't I never woke up one morning and just said you know what I'm so happy to talk about books I'm so confident through that you know that was years and years and years of really hard work and a really arduous journey of the self.
Yeah, well, gambling was sort of, you know, gambling was a thing that really destroyed my life, which was like the debilitating thing that I could absolutely just had no power over whatsoever that I was just, gambling was what I was powerless to.
But at the same time, like I was abusing drugs and alcohol, uh, to use, you know, as, as coping methods and, and to, to soothe and numb me from all the pain that I was experiencing, you know, from gambling and from other things.
So yeah, so gambling was my addiction, but like, and make no, you know, make no mistake that, you know, drugs and alcohol and substance abuse was, was there too.
Yeah, great question and many, many things, many answers to that.
But I want to take, you know, when you – before you said when, you know, you go through those journey or we all go through the journey and we return home to ourselves, I think –
For me, it was, yes, returning home to myself, but it was creating home within myself.
You know, we have to create that home within, we have to create that belonging within ourselves.
And it's always there, but, you know, discovering it and taking off, taking off all the conditioning, taking off all the shame, the armor, the mask, everything.
To rediscover that home within yourself and build that home within yourself.
And for me, as I said, that was a journey still now, it's ongoing, but that's been a journey of six years to this point.
