You want something to be open.
You don't want things to be completely closed.
You want to be able to make up your mind about it to a certain extent.
I think the rhyme example is really useful, but I think any sort of poetic form is useful for that.

And that needs to be a sort of collaborative thing between whatever you're writing and whoever you're expecting to read it, whoever you're sort of wanting to get anything out of it.
You're kind of trying to avoid the really kind of pat and sort of soap operatic kind of emotional transactions.
You're trying to find some other way around our emotions.

And it's just the age-old thing of just trying to say something true, trying to say something that is sort of accurate, emotionally, intellectually, or otherwise, which is really hard.
And I think it does involve a level of self-consciousness that can become almost unbearable.
Because I think that's what the great postmodernist novelists were doing.
