If Democrats are energized, presidential Democrat election voters show up in the midterms and Republicans are home upset about a myriad of things or just thinking they've won and they don't need to go vote.
If that gap closes, what it almost guarantees is we lose three to five state house seats, one state Senate seat, three congressional seats that we otherwise would have a path to victory in.
Those are major problems.
We'll get to South Texas in a minute because two of those would be South Texas seats that we have a path to win unless this energy gap shifts, in which case those are staying blue.
And the problem,
Control over Congress could most certainly come down to two or three congressional seats in Texas that if we don't match Democrat energy, we will lose.
So that's 100 percent correct.
And to get to South Texas there as a transition into Trump's trip, I think that might be one of the reasons he's coming to Corpus, because South Texas is key to Texas remaining as red as it currently is.
Republicans should not take the Hispanic vote for granted.
To your point, Starr County is like the one that everybody likes to point to because it's the most Hispanic county in Texas.
It's a smaller county.
And these aren't people who got more energized or less energized.
These are people who went from voting for a Democrat, Hillary Clinton, to voting for Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton winning that county by, what, 50-something, 60 points to Donald Trump over the course of multiple election cycles, moving the Hispanic vote to the right.
And by the way,
They vote for Trump MAGA version of republicanism.
I want to be clear.
When John Cornyn was on the ballot six years ago, Trump outperformed Cornyn in the Rio Grande Valley.
If you were in the suburbs, the upper middle class areas, Cornyn would outperform Trump.
But when you went to South Texas, Trump was the top vote getter in every single one of those counties.
Why?
