I mean, I don't really know for sure, but I think they say an old crab's like four years old.

But the thing that usually kills a crab, besides getting caught, is they go to shed and they can't shed.
They don't have the energy.
So like male crabs just keep getting bigger, bigger, bigger.
But a female crab, since they only shed from an immature to a mature female one time,
Once she's a mature female, she'll never shed again.
She'll never grow.
So if she's that big as a mature female, she'll stay that big.
If she's that big, she'll stay that big.
And then they'll sponge up.
So they get like, I'm sure you've seen them before.
Yeah.
Well, so like on a blue crab, her apron right on the bottom, she'll get this big sponge on it.
Yeah.
So they'll get like a big egg sponge.
They say it's, you know, two to 8 million eggs per sponge.
When they're really bright orange, they're new.
She'll carry them around for like two weeks.
As time goes on, they'll get darker in color.
