And then I started working at Rustenburg with Adi Badenhorst and he really opened up my mind to doing things differently and all sorts of stuff from what I was learning at the university as well.

and he was the one that also suggested and almost forced me to also go and spend time overseas.

So I used my Irish passport to good effect and I started working in France.

I worked at Chateau Fusel first and then

I also did time with Hubert de Waer at Angelus as well.

And I learned so much from Hubert and we still stay in contact and chat about things, which is fantastic.

And then I went to the United States and spent some time in Napa working at Screaming Eagle, which was a

interesting time to go across to it because it was just when the farm had been sold from the person that had started it to the new owners and it was quite funny when it was sold there was no transfer of intellectual knowledge should we say so when we started working there we had to work out exactly which vineyards they were using to make the wines how they approached doing it and there was a very interesting period to go through all this

study of the wines to try and piece together what they had done to keep this continuity going.

I do, and I'd highly recommend it for everybody to go and do it because you pick up so many different things and approaches from different people.

And it's not to say you're going to use all of it, but you've seen different things and you can apply it in different ways to your approach and philosophy going forward.

And I think just as a person, it makes you grow so much and it gives you a lot more confidence as well.

And it lets you charter your own voyage going forward.

And I think it's with the advent of travel, I think we can't underestimate what the old God did in the South African industry, but they were hamstrung by travel restrictions.

and we are as a younger generation very fortunate that we could travel and go and see and learn new things and for me the wine industry is a fantastic industry because people share so much knowledge and it's through that joint love for the products that everybody shares and you learn and glean so much from it

Glenelli was, as you say, was a truly phenomenal job and you're working, I was working for such a

fantastic character in the wine industry and I learned so much from working with the Maid de Lancassar.

I was torn to be honest but I'd always said there were certain properties

that I always had on my list that if they ever came up, I'd put my hat in the ring to see if I could go and work there.
