that as everybody hopefully knows by now, DNA is the instructions to make life.
The DNA is the instructions to make sperm.
If that DNA gets damaged, you get a broken sperm.
Just like if you change the instructions on making a car, you're gonna get a damaged car out of it.
Very similar, and they think that the uh the ozone and the nitrogen dioxide is directly damaging the sperm.
It was a huge study, two thousand men, one of the biggest ever actually on sperm.
Uh between twenty thirteen and twenty seventeen, they took semen samples every two months for six months and they estimated this and they found thirty-nine DNA changes and they correlated them.
It is a correlation, it must be said, with ozone and nitrogen dioxide levels in the atmosphere.
And then they could show that in the lab that these things will damage sperm.
And one particular gene, it's called G N A S, that's a really important one for sperm development that was being damaged.
And all this strongly suggests, I mean it is um sort of a a correlation at the moment though, that these pollutants are not allowing sperm to develop properly.
And then secondly, the chemicals in plastics are lowering testosterone.
So in some ways it's a perfect storm.
Two types of
pollutants they're damaging sperm and and that's a big concern for us all because if those counts keep falling.
We will become extinct.
I know that's a big traumatic thing to say.
But if sperm levels keep going the way they're going, it'll be quite hard then for humans to have babies.
Now, what's the answer?
Well, get rid of the pollution if possible.
