And I had gone and traveled the world.

I had left NBC in 2016.

And I had kept all these journals.

And I was going through kind of a difficult time sort of figuring out, okay, what do I do with this incredible experience that I had?

I went to over 67 countries, learned so much about the world, learned about myself.

But

That freedom that I had sought after NBC had become to be a little bit detrimental, that I was strangling myself with it.

So I went back and I read the journals and I had all these primary source documents about a lived experience that I had gone through.

And I said, you know what?

There's some interesting stuff in here.

There's sort of two tracks.

There's the wanderlust, obviously, of leaving your position that you were supposed to do or that you had wanted for so long and achieved a level of success but felt unfulfilled.

But then there was this idea of I was looking for something, which ultimately was the acceptance of not going in the same direction as my father.

And I was also trying to outrun something, and that was outrunning grief.

And what I realized going through those journals was, okay, there's a story here.

And there's one that has a lot of universal themes that a lot of people can relate to.

So go at it and see what you can do.

Now, my writing process was unique because I wrote out all the journals.

And that was about 300,000 words.

what was that like and what was the daily when you commit to it there has to be a daily discipline you can't just do it and then get back to it in three weeks can't correct and i approached it like a job i moved out to san francisco and went to my late grandmother's apartment and i hold myself up um i decided to go out there in the beginning of 2019 i had to leave the friendly confines of the tony kornheiser show
