This time reform have gone almost for the polar opposite of that in their candidate.

And if you look at the local elections, which were now, I feel like a decade ago, but they were only a fortnight ago, there was switching between blocs, that is people who voted for left-wing parties voting for right, so Labour to reform switchers.
But there was also a lot of what we call in-bloc switching, and that is former Conservative voters going to reform UK.
In particular, this was almost most pronounced in
in places like Makerfield, Wigan Council, other councils across the north of England, where the Conservatives might not have won, or in some cases they did, almost off the pitch entirely, you know, almost squeezed into irrelevance, which is why I don't think it was ever going to happen.
But, you know, when Josh Simons announced he was standing down, you know, there was pressure on the Conservatives not to put up a candidate because...
People were saying you were going to split the right vote there.
Now, look, you know, for a national party, I don't think they were ever going to field a candidate.
I also feel, you know, if they weren't going to field a candidate, there would have had to be some kind of quid pro quo in one of the other by-elections, which I'm sure you're going to go on to talk about in future episodes in Aberdeen South, where they're clearly the challenger.

So I don't think that was ever likely, but it shows you again how far the Conservatives' fortunes have fallen, that people are basically saying, look, why are you even running?
Absolutely.
So, you know, I think one of the big questions about Restore has been precisely that.
Are they just an online phenomenon?
People are very engaged and want to go further than Nigel Farage and Reform are prepared to go.
Obviously, Restore UK's sister party, Great Yarmouth First, which only ran candidates in Great Yarmouth, actually swept the board there.
That's Rupert Lowe, their leader's parliamentary seat.
So they clearly can win elections.
