And there are more areas where if the left, or not even just the left, there are increasing signs that there is a group of Tory voters who will not come behind reform and will actually uh vote the other way to stop them.
If that keeps happening.
Happening, it becomes really hard for reform to win.
Reform's best chance of winning is to get to around 30% and the opposition to be divided.
But if in every contest people unite behind the anti-reform uh candidate, it becomes much, much harder.
And so they've got to find a way almost to be less threatening.
And I remember in Gorton, and this was pretty extraordinary, I had there was a woman the day after we went back into a sort of post
Yeah.
So that was the by
stand.
The Greens won uh the by-election.
Matt Goodwin was the candidate for uh reform.
And there was a woman who said, you know, I was basically up all night wondering if I'd made the right tactical choice, voting for the Greens, because I was so desperate to stop reform.
That doesn't happen normally.
And so the other thing that's happening, which is really interesting, is normally in by-elections, you get a big drop-off uh in turn now.
This parliament.
The average drop-off in by-election turnout is the lowest it's been.
Well, we've been looking back over, I think, since the uh turn of the century.
It's the lowest since then.
So we're getting these very high-stakes elections, which people are liking by-elections.
