Girls I went to school with who are now in Australia doing nursing, who are who would love to come home and build a life here, but there's no space here for them.

So I think that very much needs to be taken into account when we're talking about what we are doing with the public sector.

Well, I think we need to look at what we're spending our money on as a state, because I think everyone can agree.

We have long said that we need to broaden our tax base and to insulate our tax base from the economic shocks that we have seen.

I didn't say that.

What I am saying is that last year we did have a tax package in the budget.

It was half a billion euro for developers.

It was a handout to McDonald's and KFC.

And it was untargeted measures for business.

But I think it's the important thing that we should be targeting these measures at the struggling industry and not the very profitable multinational companies that are raking it in in comparison.

Well, I suppose it is about being able to actually recruit and retain people in our public services.

So you're not spending millions of euro a year on agency staff.

You're not spending millions of euro a year on advertising, on recruitment, on consultancy involved in the advertising and recruitment of those roles because it is much cheaper to get good people in and keep them

than to have to every three years, every two years, every one year with some posts, try and find someone new to fill that gap.

And in the meantime, you're paying through the nose, not just for that role via an agency, but you're also paying the agency's fee.

I mean, I suppose that I read that article with great interest.

Do you feel courted?

I'm not feeling terribly courted by Fine Gael's policy and Fine Gael's action in government.

And I think that's really like everyone can talk about the numbers and massive coalition.

But for us, we've always been very clear.
