It actually, it's funny that you say that because on the main forum, looksmax.org, it actually, if I'm not mistaken, it used to say first rule of looks maxing, don't talk about looks maxing, which reflects a open understanding, like never say that you're doing any of this stuff.

Like looking good helps, but being transparent about the things that you're doing to look good probably won't improve your life.

So I believe that that was part of it.

Uh, then a second facet was actually that they didn't want, I mean, a lot of the methods that they use are such as bone smashing already been mentioned is probably very dubious.

But I think that part of it is that they wanted to protect it with the, honestly, a view that a lot of us might agree with, which is that the mating market is competitive.

And so if everyone gets better looking, it may be the equivalent of everyone's like kind of running faster.

It's like if other guys figure out that wearing makeup makes you more attractive, then everyone's going to be wearing makeup.

And you've seen that already happen to women.

I mean, women, this is something that I said on your podcast three or four years ago, that women have been looks maxing for decades and decades and decades.

This is before it came in as a real trend.

and that's kind of what's happened right is that all women are wearing makeup and now or almost all of them are and now if you skip that part of your routine it almost comes across and it shouldn't it's unfortunate but it almost comes across as unprofessional in a workspace i mean it's just this extra burden of minimum bar has been raised for what presentable is yeah exactly so if all men start uh doing the same thing then yeah i would say that the minimum bar probably

I think that intuition, even if some of the methods that they're coveting and protecting are ineffective, I think that the intuition about competitiveness and how it works is probably correct.

And with beauty, there's actually some evidence for this in women already.

I'm not aware of any study that's been done on this in men, but Zia and colleagues in China, they actually tested.

So it was makeup and plastic surgery that they tested on real women's faces, and they had men assess their attractiveness, their datability, etc.,
