But when men were informed, meaning once men knew like, oh, this woman looks better, but she's had plastic surgery, they had a reduced datability effect.

So it was an increase that was attenuated.

So the attractiveness boost was still present, like they were still considered more datable.

But that effect was attenuated when you were aware of the effort that had gone in.

What was the net, would you say?

The net was still that there was a benefit.

And you could see in these faces that the attractiveness difference... I can send you the study.

The attractiveness differences in their example were large.

But it was an attenuated effect where it's like, oh, if they know, if they detect it, then they're less interested.

And it may be because of what attractiveness evolved for, where it's like it's meant to be this...

health signal, youth signal, et cetera.

But if we have this cognitive knowledge of like, oh, this isn't a real youth signal, right?

This is a woman with facelift that may change the valence slightly, but I'd be interested in Steve's thoughts.

Do you think we might have like a general kind of cheater detection thing where it's like, oh, this person is deceiving me in some way.

And so it's not like, I mean, cheater detection refers to a specific phenomenon that's different, of course, but in terms of just general, what do you think would drive the effect of false beauty being a slightly less preferred compared to natural beauty?
