Our radar is constantly on to keep us safe.
So
Before, when we were living in a cave and there was a lion scratching at the door or whatever it was, it was better to be frightened
Because then you could escape and go away, have babies, and they're our old ancestors.
If you were like, it's okay, I'm going to, I'll beat the lion, I'm strong, you were going to get eaten.
So you didn't survive and you didn't have babies.
So we've got this negativity bias built in, and there's a good reason for it.
But those lions aren't scratching at our doors now.
And it's more of the social context, which is fearful for us.
You know, I call it about the social safety compass.
Where do we fit?
If you have this calculator and you're at the schools and your teacher's asking you to do a sum and all the kids laugh at you because you get the numbers the wrong way around, totally relate to that.
You don't feel socially safe.
You feel different then.
You feel outcast.
And that brings that fear inside you, which gets woven into your nervous system and you grow up and so on.
And it stays with us.
It takes a while for us to regulate our nervous system and reprogram our fears.
And that's why the work that you do and the work that I do, I think, is so important.
When you've lived it yourself and you know how it limits your own self.
