So it was after I'd done medicine and I basically cured myself through phobic-type treatment because that fear, it's our amygdala, it's in the reptilian part of our brain, it's always awake, it's always...

searching for things that are dangerous but we can go under the radar so some sometimes it's good to face your fear head on and deal with it and there is a value in that but a lot of the time it's good just to take tiny little baby steps yes so not really face it head on but step back a few steps you know what could i do on the way to facing it exactly exactly

That would keep me under the radar of my little lizard, as I call it, because it's a reptilian.

So that your little lizard doesn't wake up and you can gradually build up that confidence.

Well, it was OK for me to speak up or in that low stakes meeting people I knew.

And so I'll practice that for a bit.

And then you move up, you turn up the exposure little by little.

That's also a really good approach.

Yeah, there's science that shows that if you prepare what you would say,

predictable type of situation, then you're more likely to actually do it than if you don't prepare it.

That's all that FOMO and comparisonitis.

That's all fear.

So if you prepare that, this is what I would say.

And you've got like it ready in your back pocket.

Yes, exactly.

You're much more likely to do it.

And if you don't do it the first time, it's OK.

There'll be other opportunities to practice.

So don't beat yourself up.

of complexity totally yeah totally and more to compare yourself with others and uh we're taught at school to always get things right and so if you make a mistake with your grammar or your pronunciations then those old uh worries about getting it wrong surface again and i'm always so impressed with this multicultural environment i know
