And so then you have these two distinctions between two different kinds of nature that you talk about in the book.
Um, what you you call in in English at least distinct nature and endowed nature.
Uh what are these these two natures of the self?
And so I this is maybe skipping ahead a little bit to the fifth chapter, but uh self realization is an important aspect of Gosyang's work.
Um given his conception of the self as you've described it, what does self realization amount to for human beings?

Yeah, so I'm just trying to to get a a a handle on the relationship between the sort of the metaphysics here, um, the epistemology and and the ethics and politics.
So we have this idea that the this thing that we we call the self um isn't some kind of soul, some kind of metaphysical uh entity that
just kind of continues to persist unchangingly as the basis of our experience and so on.
Um and he doesn't want to go maybe full on
nihilist about the self.
Um we're not in the realm of Buddhism here, although there might be interesting connections between Buddhism and Gossiang.
So there is something that's a self.
And so is it the idea that because of the way that ourselves are metaphysically what we call self-realization, which is a kind of an ethical practice,
