Maybe we could talk about the text a little bit and excuse me, and its relationship to these categories of philosophy and religion.

So it's called uh in tr in uh translation, a guide to the practices of awakening.

So what is this idea of awakening and uh is the text the sort of text that only uh sort of Buddhist practitioners would be interested in?

Uh what in there is

maybe more universally philosophical as a kind of a moral philosophy that's not just about a sort of particular religious uh practice or or answer that however you want to give those particular categories, I guess.

So maybe let's start a little bit big picture about how you're understanding Shantideva in terms of some of these um kind of modern philosophical distinctions uh in moral philosophy, and then we can dig into each of the the chapters in turn.

So one of the things in your book that you argue uh is that Shantideva is a virtue.

And you put forward an interpretation of his virtue theory which is maybe distinct from other interpretations of his work.

One insofar as you're focusing on um virtue theory and not say consequentialism or moral phenomenology.

Um and the other is that you're distinguishing uh between a virtue theory and virtue ethics.

So maybe could you give us a sense of where you would position Shantideva in these admittedly um different categories to his particular time period?

Gotcha.

So um one quick follow-up if I if I may on that.

And I know this isn't the the focus of your book, but you just mentioned that um the question of right action is not necessarily the one that he's primarily concerned with, maybe, um, or not so much in the kind of way that uh Western philosophers are.

Uh do you think that that's something important that could uh

maybe make what he's doing a helpful alternative to how Western and broadly philosophy thinks of uh moral philosophy.
