Jerry and Mania, the Hauraki breakfast.

Basically, I study sharks, and we're talking about great white sharks here.

So something that's pretty cool, pretty novel.

We're pretty connected to it, whether you like them or fear them.

And to understand them, to study them, we need to use satellite tags, and they cost like $4,300 each.

They're super expensive.

So New Zealand doesn't have that kind of funding from government, so I went to the public.

Like I used to say, it was the Red Sox kind of campaign, but you can't say that these days.

and the public will sponsor a tag, like your mum's and dad's, your business's, whatever, and they get to name the shark, and that funds the price of the tag.

They get that connection, but that connection gets to be shared with the public through the Great White App.

Yeah, I'd say on the great white sharks better.

I'm doing it quite passively.

So we use like a tagging pole.

It's a little stainless steel dart with a string and a little blimp of the tag.

It's kind of like piercing your ear.

The sharks, we go down to where they aggregate down off Stewart Island.

And it's like a little pinprick in their back.

They barely notice it.

They keep swimming around.

And every time the shark comes to the surface, the tag connects to a satellite and tells us where that shark is.
