So all of this stuff was happening all at the same time.
on top of a body modification scene, who are just into more of this existential experience of doing body altercations like piercing and stuff like that.
So there was that scene too.
And these were all converging at the same time, so there was so much happening in terms of subculture kind of stuff.
So yeah, it was really, really, really popping.
So yeah, literally almost everywhere, like across Japan, there was something like a big convention on.
So kind of like, so there was, so to put it into a timeline, like say,
It was basically kind of like the world of like traditional tattoos.
And then in the late 80s, like Horitoku, the person I first met, so he went onto TV and he did this, like they just wanted to do something like really sensational.
And he collaborated with Akira Uno, you know, he's like an illustrator.
And so he did the tattoo, which is like this back piece and it was like super avant-garde.
And then he went on national TV and
And that created this huge sensation and a lot of visibility for someone who is super underground.
And then Kishi and Nuchiyama, who are two tattoo artists, like modern style, like with machines, they approached him and then they became his students.
And then they opened up the first kind of like Western street shops that you see in America.
Just like, you know, you can just go in and get tattooed.
And this instigated like this whole tattoo boom.
And then eventually there was 500 shops all over Japan.
and like all these magazines and all this kind of stuff so um so a lot was happening in the subculture world and you know how it is in japan it's kind of like like even if the top layer is very conservative and like um you know like you know very like on the narrow and like very straight and stuff but then there's kind of like stuff happening like when you scratch your surface and that's what it was like it was like existing you know underground but um but it was so big it was really really big and um
You know, like a lot of the magazines, the tattoo magazines were just in the company.
