A really nice thing about hunting avoidance in sperm whales.
In 2001, there were some newly digitized log books from whale hunters in the North Pacific.
And they found that over not that long a span of time, the whales had all learned to swim upwind of the boats that were harpooning them, which were wind powered.
So the boats would go one way and the whales would go the other way.
And the strike rate for harpoonists fell by 58%.
Back in the day, you're cutting up your whale in the sea.
