When you see those pictures, how do you feel about that moment in the history of your country?
It's interesting.
Looking at pictures of Zoot Suits, you can kind of see fragments of its design that have followed us through time.
Like the way in which oversized outfits have kind of made a return via hip hop and via skate culture.
These things kind of, they go and they pass and they have this sort of functionality to it.
But there's also this kind of very deep history to it.
That idea of understanding American history through iterations of a suit, it's just very fascinating to me.
As for the zoot suit itself, if you go online and try and hunt one, like an original now, you will struggle.
They are incredibly rare.
Apparently it took the Los Angeles County Museum of Art a decade to find one.
And when they did, they had to pay around $80,000 for it.
When people look at the Zoot Suit now and a handful of examples of it that they see, or even if people are going online and they're looking at pictures of the Zoot Suit, what is the history that you want people to see when they look at that outfit?
This has been such a joy.
