It's a state on the brink of collapse.
But then, in November of 1989, the city of Prague feels this ripple.
Everyone in the city, they wake up to news of something huge happening across the border over in Germany.
And yet, a protest was planned in Prague, one that would go down as history-making.
But it started as a commemoration for a young man, actually, who was a student, who had actually been murdered decades earlier by the Nazis.
Then...
a government order is given.
Eventually, the streets cleared and the students found their way back to their dorms and their homes and they started talking.
Who was that body that was carried away?
Did anyone know them?
Are they OK?
Now, that story went out all over the world, and the word, it started to spread amongst the people of Prague.
Václav Havel is a playwright and a former dissident.
Something has clearly shifted in this city, this new sense of political hope.
But it wasn't without risk.
But Havel, he sort of hedges his bets, right?
He thinks that the regime knows.
The writing is on the wall.
Their time is up.
Communism in Czechoslovakia has now crumbled and a new era begins, a revolution.
