With her husband Moritz, they entertain at their home.
They rub shoulders with society's elites.
But they also have their finger, I guess, on the pulse of Vienna, what makes its heart beat.
And they start getting involved with a growing art movement.
The group called the Secession Party.
The secession movement was a group of artists, architects, designers that broke away from the mainstream and created new and progressive art.
And Hermina and her husband Moritz, they would host events for them, they went to their exhibitions, they bought their works, and eventually they wanted to be in the artworks themselves.
So in 1901,
Moritz commissioned one of these secession artists to paint Hermine.
The artist he chose was this very scruffy 39-year-old who, for some reason, only painted portraits of women.
Right, the Ghaliyas are part of the Hutu, the V&A society.
They've got an incredible art collection, including two pieces from a secessionist artist.
But there is one thing about them that puts a target on their back.
See, even though Hamina and Moritz were Catholics, that faith was relatively new for them.
Up until quite recently,
They had been Jewish, and their Jewish background trails behind them like a bride's veil.
At the turn of the 20th century, antisemitism started creeping into Viennese society, and by this point, that religion made Jewish people a codified second class.
But the Gileas' lives go on.
They have a young family to bring up in this changing world they're living in.
Then, in March 1938, Austria is annexed into Nazi Germany.
