During that time, though, her son, James, is actually raised by, I guess, a John Knox acolyte.
And he turns James against his own mother.
All of which brings us back to that ship in the storm where we started this episode.
The man on that ship being lashed by rain, that was King James VI, Mary's son.
Two years after Mary was beheaded, James was set to be married to the Princess of Denmark, but her voyage to him was constantly delayed and waylaid by intense weather.
As James's ship was being ravaged by wind and wave, his fear and belief in witches boiled over.
So when James arrives home with his new wife in 1590, he starts hunting down witches,
Indeed, these witch trials would lead to the first major witchcraft persecution in Scotland.
And it was famous for its brutality and just for the sheer number of people tried.
The witch trials continued across Scotland until 1736, when the Scottish Witchcraft Act was repealed.
But this story doesn't end there.
Now, in 2020, yes, 2020, a group was formed seeking justice for those people who had been accused of witchcraft.
This group, they called themselves the Witches of Scotland.
Yes, you heard that right.
In 2022, Nicola Sturgeon offered a formal apology to people accused of witchcraft between the 16th and 18th centuries, many of whom were executed.
The Scottish First Minister said she was choosing to acknowledge an egregious historic injustice.
But, of course, that doesn't mean that women have stopped being referred to as witches.
So much of the violence against women and witches can be traced back to this witchcraft act signed by Mary, Queen of Scots, arguably the most famous, certainly the most controversial woman figure in Scottish history.
And yet her legacy is one that constantly gets revisited and re-examined.
And whatever happened to John Knox, I hear you ask?
