I am calling out the lack of bold public opposition from this Democratic body against these preemptive laws.
It is not enough to say the 1987 ban exists.
I understand that the legislation is what holds your hands, but at the same time you have influence with the same people who are running for office on the legislative branch.
We need to get affordable housing to get that law changed.

Thank you to the mayor, the manager, members of city council, and the city clerk's office for allowing me this opportunity to address you about a pressing matter of public safety and health, car violence against non-drivers.
As a leader in the Charlotte running community, my request to speak was initiated by the tragic and senseless death of Lance Otello in January.
Lance's death is especially tragic since the driver who allegedly killed him should not have been driving due to a suspended license.
Since Lance's death, five other pedestrians have died on the streets of Charlotte.
A change in enforcement, infrastructure, and culture is desperately needed.
We cannot implement our ideas or plans without the assistance of the city.
