want to provide support to my family now that I am like standing on my own two feet and this is something that I would recommend for others I know that other first gens like they're thinking about supporting family from day one and some of them like have to right like their parents might already be in retirement in in a retirement age or their siblings are struggling
and or like are also still in college and so they don't have the time like me to get on their own two feet first but if you do have the time if you feel like your parents are okay still your siblings are okay focus on yourself for basically as long as you can start with like conversations having conversations so that's what I did like I spent a lot of my 20s honestly just talking to my parents about money and
what they were doing, what they were hoping for in retirement, and then like helping them here and there.
It's very secretive.
Silently taking care of each other, that should be trademarked for like Mexican money traditions.
Absolutely do not talk about money at the dinner table.
I would say that when I first tried talking to them about money, they were a little bit hesitant, a little bit thrown off guard.
Because like you said, all of these expectations and all of these traditions are like just done.
You don't discuss them.
But I think over time, I didn't just say like, how much do you earn now?
Like how much money do you have in savings?
Yeah.
what is your credit score?
But I did start just asking them like, Oh, like what would you want to do when you retire?
What do you want to,
stay here in the US?
Would you want to go back to Mexico?
Where would you go in Mexico?
And then that's when I started finding out more like casually what their plans were.
And in return, kind of sharing why I was asking, right?
