It just really, really shocked us both.

So you go back in then?

Go back in for, we had arranged this appointment with his oncologist, which in itself was a scary thing to arrange.

And that was supposed to be in the evening, but they had to do a couple more tests on him during the day.

So we went in early and James had said to me, do you want me to ask anyone, will I ask your mum to come with us?

And I said, no, I'm a grown woman.

But he knew that I was quite worried about not being able to take in the information.

So of course he asked my mum, just went against what I said, but he knew that was what was best.

And I think it was really nice of him to do that because it was, that's kind of a vulnerable time, isn't it?

Yeah.

So my mum and I went with him and he had these tests early in the day and the staff at the hospital said to him, look, we need to do an endoscopy.

you can get the anaesthetic and you'll just have to stay with us then for a few hours afterwards and he said what if I don't get the anaesthetic would I be able to just go then because we were planning to go into town for lunch and they said yeah you can do that if you want so he had a camera down his throat with no anaesthetic at all and he said it just felt like that movie Alien he said he could really feel it moving around his tummy

He came out to us when we were sitting in the car, nearly squirming when he was describing it.

And we went for a lovely walk into town.

We walked along the river, had a really nice lunch in town.

In Galway?

In Galway, yeah.

And on the way back, my mum kind of left us to it and she went and lit a candle for him in the cathedral.

And then we met up again at the hospital when it was time to go in for his appointment.

And we went in and the doctor said, look, this is a rare enough type of cancer.
