What are we doing with these opportunities that we're given?
Because we're not the girl in Vietnam or even some of these traffickers, even some sicarios in Sinaloa, where this is the environment they grew up in.
This is all that's offered to them.
This is all they know.
And I will never forget this interview that I did with a 16, 17-year-old kid in Peru who's carrying cocaine on his back, like kilos and kilos of cocaine, backbreaking work through the mountains of Peru.
Seeing some of his friends being killed in front of him by rival groups at this point has seen dozens of people being killed, extreme violence, really difficult work, really dangerous.
And when I asked him, why are you doing this?
He says, look, I've always wanted to be a dentist.
I've always wanted to go to college.
My parents can't afford it.
And so this is the only work that I will allow me to go to college.
And I say, why college?
What do you want to do?
He says, I want to be a dentist.
And I asked him, why do you want to be a dentist?
Because in my little town, all the posters that I see for dentists is posters of people with big smiles.
So I want to make people smile.
Exactly.
Hoping that one day he can become a dentist.
So that's what I want the show to be.
