This is on the island of Pukapuka, a coral atoll.

It's remote in the Cook Islands.

His name is Apiuta Apiuta, or otherwise known as Pone.

He went out to catch food for his family and he forgot to pack a life jacket or torch.

I was catching a few fish.

I had around six or seven in my boat.

I thought I'd catch another one, but the sunset had already dropped.

and powerful winds, as his motor failed, pushed him out to sea.

I tried to row back, obviously, and he could only watch helplessly as search parties looked from the shore.

Yeah.

Helpless.

And I could see the men on the island that were looking for me.

I could see their lights.

I didn't take a torch with me.
