Okay.
I'm going to read this because there's a lot to this.
And I think if we were beginning negotiations, there's a lot to take into consideration.
So I'm just going to go with this.
I want to start by framing why we are having this discussion.
It speaks to the large goals of our solid waste authority and where we have been trying to get to for the last 10 years.
That's why it's important to have this discussion thoroughly and patiently and make sure we're getting everything right.
We've moved past the place where we just bury or burn all of our garbage.
One, Broward County has limited space both at the landfills and the waste energy plant.
Two, between the leachate and emissions, we've seen that the old ways are both expensive and difficult to mitigate.
Three, there's value in the waste stream, and it would be irresponsible to our constituents if we ignored the science
and or the savings and didn't do our best to reduce costs and instead try to capture the benefits available.
That's why it's so important to look for alternative options.
That is why Filthy Organics is here today.
And I want to thank Dustin for being a part of the conversation for these last few years.
You've brought a lot of things to the table for us to consider, and I appreciate that.
Two budget cycles ago, this commission asked for a consultant, HDR, to analyze the use of our landfill out by US 27 for processing yard waste, glass recycling, and construction and debris.
