The report provides the feasibility and the blueprint how to move forward to handle hundreds of thousands of tons on an annual basis, preserving our capacity at our waste energy plant as well as the monarch landfill, which, if you recall, will not be taking organic material after the end of this year.

That deadline is January 1st.

So the master plan envisions a robust mulching process, grinding, shredding, and screening of a large part of the yard waste of this county, both commercial and residential.

The result is a valuable product, depending on how it has been processed, mulch that is used in our own yards, our parks, our medians, our nurseries, and a whole host of other places.

At the high end of this use, that which has been sifted and screened the most, is the feedstock for compost, which can be used for soil and gardens and farms.

It is both valuable and extremely useful.

Counties throughout the country

regular to give mulch away back to the people and municipalities as a public benefit.

Everybody wins.

We preserve our capacity in the landfills and the mulch is available to private yards and to public spaces.

The newly established solid waste authority is expected to issue in the very near future, and I'm talking within the next couple months, RFPs, requests for proposals, for the processing of yard waste, recycling, and municipal solid waste.

So this unsolicited bid comes at an interesting moment.

I don't want to say inconvenient or premature, because I can see a pathway where this has benefits.

But what it does do is it shakes things up and makes this commission

and the SWA accelerate its thinking on scope and sequence of the events.

At the last meeting, I voted against this proposal, not because I don't want them to succeed, but because I do.

I want to understand how and where the feedstock comes from that will propel filthy organics to do well.

It is only with a guaranteed flow of material that filthy organics can design the size and depth of an operation.

You can't build an operation on wishes.
