Then you have opening arguments, and most people, if they don't decide right away, they certainly lean towards a side.
And it's hard to get them off of that side.
So by the time they go back to the jury room, they're etched in stone, they're in their positions, and they find it probably deplorable that they're being yelled at by their fellow jurors.
As to why they're not coming off their position.
I consider them to be remaining in that position.
