Uh, you know, you can call up the you know, punch in the person's name, uh, look at their page and and you can see if there are any red flags that might make you say, Yeah, I think we'll we'll pass on this person.
Um, I actually had a had a case

Where this this happened, um the plaintiff was a was a pretty young guy and he portrayed himself in the lawsuit as a very law abiding straight arrow type of fellow and and there was a law enforcement
um aspect of this case.
And I just did a casual internet search and I found his social media page where he pretty much confirmed that he was a member of a
fairly well known street gang and was engaged in activities that obviously, uh, once we knew about them did not help his case.
So, I mean, it's it it is a great tool.
uh and most HR people these days are using it.
The risk that they run though
is
where they're looking for information and they find out information that they could otherwise never have asked in a job interview, could never have asked on a job application, and which it is illegal to rely on in making employment decisions.
uh the EEOC is beginning to get very active in this regard.
uh the the fairly recent law, the uh genetic um
Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act actually includes language that uh that makes it a violation for uh employers to rely on information that they get on the internet.
So it it's a it's a gor it's it can be a somewhat risky proposition.
There are ways of doing it properly to to avoid the risk of liability.
Well, you know, first of all I have to give the kind of the caveat I guess that these generational labels and they're not my invention, they're they're pretty standard.
