just recently and and literally within the last month or two, uh members of Congress, uh in particular um Senator Charles Schumer, uh Senator um oh what's the fellow's name?

uh the former comedian, I can't remember it off the top of my head.

But uh they have started sending letters to these companies asking them questions about what they're doing to protect

uh privacy information.

So it it's quite likely down the road we're going to see some more government regulation in this area.

But but right now it's it's not really governed by anything but uh employer discretion and you know how these particular companies choose to operate.

Well it it it usually only takes one lawsuit for folks to uh to get real discipline but that

That that's kind of an HR uh responsibility and and and a training issue.

Um you know, and and you're you make a very good point.

Human nature is what kicks in into this.

And I mean we're all we're all curious.

And uh and it's that you know, one of the problems is it's so easy

Uh that's why I think it's it's very important for companies to really set up policies and have specific procedures and make it real clear why you don't just do these casual searches, particularly if somebody is an active candidate for a position.

Generally it wouldn't be an enormous problem except to the extent, you know, and again it would depend on the industry.

You know, in certain situations you you could uh you could inadvertently give away proprietary information, confidential information, depending on the extent of the detail that the uh

that uh was contained in any kind of reference

LinkedIn is is somewhat of a different animal because uh because it's a professional

uh professional service, people are much uh much more careful about what they're putting out there.

Um so you don't run into a lot of the same issues that you do with the with the other social media which are primarily casual casual uh communications.
