Interestingly enough, I I was I was talking to or giving a presentation on this not that long ago, not on the social media, but just on the whole issue of uh giving references to former employee employees who are, you know, either looking for a job or in the process of uh of of leaving.
And
It it's it's a ticklish situation because generally
you can open yourself up to defamation claims depending I mean
you know, there's never usually no problem if you say, Yeah, Joe was the gress greatest employee we ever had, we're sorry to see him go, you you'd be lucky to have him.
It's when someone calls you up and says
I see that, you know, so and so worked for you.
What kind of an employee are they or were they?
And, you know, the honest response is they were a terrible employee.
You know, if they hadn't quit we were gonna fire 'em and and
you can give you know, if you even giving a truthful
response.
can open you up to uh to being sued.
Whether it you know, whether it would be a viable lawsuit, because you know, truth is usually a defense in these cases, um, you know, the best policy is

What I tell a lot of my clients is your your reference policy should be we will acknowledge that so and so worked here from this day to this day and that's pretty much it.
You know, you're under an employer is under no requirement
To give a job reference.
