So the beat of this intermission is the relationship between him and his father, played by Bill Pullman, and they're chalk and cheese.

His dad is garrulous.

He drinks too much.

He sings badly in the local bar.

He understands that his son is a genius, but he doesn't really know what that means, or at least he can't quite express what it is.

He's got a chip on his shoulder, but over the course of the time that they spend together, he sort of softens and opens up.

And you made a point in the interview with Bill Pullman that as far as Bill Evans is concerned, his life is chaos.

But the time that it isn't chaos is when he's playing.

And one of the things that we get is a recurrent image of him not playing the piano.

There is a piano sitting in the corner of the room that he doesn't play.

And it's sort of a symbol of the chaos reigns because he's not playing.

And there is a key moment when he moves towards playing.

And it's like, okay, this is some form of resolution.

You also brought up in that interview a key scene in which the family listen to the record.

And that is a really hard thing to do, to film people listening to music.

I mean, you see the needle go on the vinyl, but then you watch their faces.

And I think that one of the triumphs of the film is that Grant Gee does a very good job of capturing

the sight of people listening to something.

And again, this kind of relates to what I was saying about Andrew Scott.

It's very hard to, it's very hard to do low key.
