Mate, I just, I just had to take, I had to, you know, going through what I went through and spending the time in prison and having all those realizations of
you know, the damage you've done to the community and, and just how you let down your family and just, just how far you've fallen.
I just, I had to make some sort of sense of it all.
And the only thing that I could come up with was I needed, I needed to, um, I needed my story and my, what I'd been through needed to mean something.
And the only way I was going to do that is if I can tell it and hopefully use it as a tool to, to, to prevent anyone falling down the same route as I did and,
It's a slippery slope and it's been 25 years of pain and torture and I'm glad it's over.
I just thought the only way to do it is to be upfront and honest and just tell the raw bones of it and that's what I've done.
It's, um,
And then it's, you know, like one minute you're swimming for the love and the passion and because you want to be an Olympian, go to the Olympics, next minute you're doing it because you've got to keep sponsors happy and, you know, then you get injured.
And it's just like it was a tragic fall of a cycle of events that just kept on snowballing for me.
And it, um...
And I didn't end it on my terms that I wanted to.
The fire was burning, but the body gave up.
And, you know, like I just numb myself.
I just wanted to not feel.
And then that's what the substance abuse came into it because I just couldn't handle being normal.
Randy, you know, as well as I know, you don't get ready for silver, do you?
Or you don't go into a grand final thinking that you're going to come second.
Like that's a loss, isn't it?
Like you get it.
