What was it like?
It was weird going in the door because I mean, I was like literally fell in love with Twitter.
I was head over heels with it.
And at that stage, the algorithms hadn't kicked in.
So Twitter at that stage was still full of communities.
that really made a difference in the world.
I never forget being in Twitter, listening to executives from India talking of the way Twitter was a public utility in times of floods.
In Japan, when there was that big earthquake, if you remember, at the nuclear reactor incident, Twitter was being used to help people get to emergency services.
And I saw Twitter as this great big piece of digital public infrastructure.
And then little did I know that people in Twitter didn't care about the world.
The executives, a lot of great people working in the company here in Ireland, but in America, and I never forget this executive coming to Dublin where I was the head of this stage, the Irish international
Ireland.
I was the guy who was the man from Del Monte, like going out there.
And I said to this executive, I said, you know what, 79% of all the people who use Twitter are outside the United States.
We should care more about the world.
