This is the White House's bill.
They issued a statement of administrative policy saying they support this bill and that it accomplishes a lot of the priorities of President Trump.
Going back to 2016, President Trump campaigned in my home state of Iowa on reforming the VA.
He had a very simple solution.
He believed that if you served in uniform, that you should have choice in your health care.
And we believe that those mad women
Who were willing to pick up a weapon and die for this country, that if they want to go outside of the VA, they should be able to go literally sometimes across the street to a private healthcare facility.
But right now, in order for us to do that, and in order for us to protect these rights, we have to pass the Access Act, which basically codifies those standards that if you have to wait more than 20 days to go to the VA, that you should be able to go to a private healthcare facility.
Or if you have to drive over 30 minutes, then you should be offered that choice.
It's very simple.
And many of us, after Trump's first term, were expecting to do much more than just protect the Mission Act.
We wanted to go a step further.
I believe that a veteran deserves choice on day one.
And if you like your VA facility, fine, keep your doctor.
Unlike Barack Obama, we will not lie about that.
We believe that if you want to keep your VA hospital, go ahead and
stay there.
But if you want to go out into the private community, you should be able to do so.
And we've seen that community care is actually not improving that much.
We see that there are VA bureaucrats who are trying to keep veterans stuck in a failed system.
