My name is Alec Diaz.

I'm representing the Land and Nature Conservancy Project.

So we keep hearing how data centers are a boom here for Northern Virginia.

And although that is true for the corporations and companies building these data centers, the actual residents are the ones suffering negative consequences.

So the rapid unchecked expansion of data centers into our residential communities isn't a financial windfall.

It's a massive financial threat to the people who actually live here.

So first, let's talk about our neighborhoods.

Nobody wants a massive industrial concrete box right in their backyard, especially since it comes with the continuous humming noises and industrial views.

As these facilities creep closer to residential zones, home values in surrounding communities will take a direct hit.

Because honestly, who wants to buy a home next to a power substation or a noise polluting cooling towers?

And when property values dropped,

Homeowners suffer, and when frustrated residents pack up and move out, the county loses a critical portion of its long-term residential tax base.
